Barbara McLemore Daniels

Marketing Manager for InterStar Communications, Inc. (Internet Provider in Clinton, NC) owned by Star Telephone Corp. I've been with the company for six years this coming November.

Married 28 years, Ricky and I have one son, Jeffrey 18 this past February. Jeffrey is a freshman at Sampson Community College, majoring in science. He plans to transfer to a 4 year college where he will continue his education in Bio Chemistry.

I've really enjoyed working on the Cape Fear School website with the committee, and hearing  from all of you.

It's really cool being able to see what everyone has been up to since graduation. Even if you can't attend the reunion this website will give you the opportunity to see how everyone is doing and the ability to contact some of your classmates through email.

Wow! Here we are the class of 73" 30th reunion can you believe it? I know it's going to be the best one yet! I look forward to seeing everyone in November!

Roland Lin Wheeler

I am the sales manager at Blown-Rite Insulation Company, Fayetteville. I am married to Yvonne Warren Wheeler. Together we have 5 sons and 4 grandchildren.

Helen Gillis

Well, I've led an absolutely fabulous life & have been extremely busy lately doing a book tour to support sales of my memoirs ("Trains, Planes, & Men Named Bubba"). The book has surprised us all by flying off the shelves everywhere I do a book signing. It's been a hell of a ride! I've been fortunate to meet some of my "fave" authors while touring and had a wonderful week-end with Nelson DeMille in Seattle! (We both SWORE we would never write about it!!!) Henry Murdock Gillis (my 5 lb. Yorkie) travels with me everywhere & we are often accompanied by his 6 lb. Yorkie girlfriend of 4 years, Molly. They love Room Service, but tend to draw a lot of attention, so I have to be very cautious when I don't want the "Press" following our every move.

I so love our Reunions and am looking forward to seeing each and every one of y'all (I'm still a GRIT after all) this fall. I'm encouraging everyone I know to attend and I hope you are too!

Love and Kisses to all my Fans and Thanks so much for your lavish support through the years!

Spend most of my days working of historical stuff for a non profit preservation group that I helped to form in 2001. Check it out on the web if you are into Civil War History in NC. www.historicalpreservationgroup.org

Everyday is a new adventure

Greetings from Raleigh!...Mike and I have been married 20 years. Mike's sons, Heath and Jay were 7 and 9 when we married and lived with us through high school. Now Heath is 29 and a Captain in the Marines. Jay is an 'entrepreneur' with 'T-1 Solutions'. Josh (my bio child) is a rising senior at Enloe HS. He is "the brain" in the family and still my pride and joy, even at 17. He has wanted to be an architect since 13, so I guess he will go to NCSU or wherever he needs to pursue his dream.

We are very active at Millbrook UMC including involvement in various lay ministries, a quartet, etc. We enjoy hiking and spending time in the mountains when we can. Mike is an avid golfer. I also enjoy gardening and working in the yard.

I have been in staffing/recruiting for over 20 years. I have worked for large corporations (e.g. when Alcatel used to be large around here), smaller consulting companies, and even a start up internet company. I am currently self employed working for an HR consulting company (part time most days). Mike is a Sr. Account Manager with a IT consulting firm.

Life has been good to us and we thank God for our many blessing of good health, good kids, and good friends, etc. We look forward to seeing old friends in November!.....Pam

Hi everyone! I have been married for 29 years to the wonderful man I became engaged to when I was a senior. We had two beautiful children, a daughter Chasity who passed away in August, 1999 from complications with leukemia. She had two great boys Tyler, now age 8, and Ryan, age 6, who live with us now. We also have a son, Chris, who is in the Army and is in Iraq at the moment. He should be leaving around the middle of July and will possibly come home for a visit in September.

I live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I have lived here for the past 15 years and I work as a service dispatcher and extended warranties administrator for Speedway Chevrolet. I really love what I do and it keeps me very busy along with my two grandsons. Hope to see all of you at the reunion. God Bless!!

FAMILY IS DOING FINE, I'M STILL SINGLE AND DOING THE CONSTRUCTION & TAX THING. STARTING A STUDY COURSE FOR THE ENROLLED AGENTS EXAM FOR NEXT YEAR. HOPE EVERYBODY IS OK

Kelly & Ramona Averitte

The last five years haven't been very good to us. First my mom died of cancer in Nov 1998, then things went really bad, our oldest son Kip died on Dec. 17 after getting burned when our house caught fire. Ramona was also burned in the fire. We miss him so very much.

Then in March 1999 I found out that I had cancer, and in 2001 I had to have a bone marrow transplant, but all went well and I am doing fine now. Ramona's mom past away in 2002, its been very hard on her but she is still going strong.

I retired from Kelly Springfield after 22 years. Ramona still works at Cape Fear High cafeteria.

Now for some good news. Our son, Wesley and his wife Jessica have given us two beautiful grandchildren,  Brandon 5 and Skylar 16 months. They are the greatest!!

We have had a great time working with everyone on this reunion and hope to see everyone there. This will be the best one ever!!!

Fill out the form, tell us about yourself & your family.

Cynthia Faye Devane

I am married to a wonderful man I met just before my 40th birthday, Vic Sanders...I have one bio child, Rhonda and one perfect grand-daughter, Courtney (5)...I also have a stepdaughter who is married with a new baby girl, Madison and my stepson who is getting ready to leave for college.

I have worked at American Airlines for the last 15 years in the Cary NC reservations center. I have kept in close touch with a few classmates, Terri Maxwell, Gary Brown and especially Janice Owen, whom I miss more than I can say.

I haven't made up my mind yet whether I can face the reunion without Janice, but I know the committee has worked very hard and it will be a huge success.

Laura Cynthia Haywood

I have three children, four grandchildren, employed by the Cumberland County School System, married for 28 years.

Donna Culbreth

A lot has happened in the past 30 years! I married Pete Owens in 1977. I have a step son, Roger who is 28 and he has two sons. Pete and I have a son, Michael, 26 and a daughter, Krystal 17.

We started a hog farm business in 1980, I have been keeping  the books for that business along with several jobs outside the home. In January Pete went into partnership with a car lot business and I have been keeping the books for that also. In the last few years the business has taken so much of my time I decided that working outside the home was to much.

For pleasure, Pete and I spend as much time as we can at the beach, which is still never enough time for me!

John Gregory Lawrence

First things first. I want to thank you all for planning the best birthday party I've ever had. I can't wait. Bring presents or money--I'm not picky!! Pat & I will be celebrating our 24th anniversary that week also.

Life's been good to me so far--I've been a smoker & a joker & a midnight toker--I can't believe I just quoted Joe Walsh & Steve Miller in the same sentence! I must have been listening to too much rock & roll all these years. I've been in sales of some form or another since quitting college & living in the woods in Florida for two years. (I haven't sold cars, I left that to Gary Brown). I tried preaching for a couple of years--talk about playing politician!! I got tired of dealing with life and death, if I had wanted to do that I would have gone to medical school. I helped Pat raise her two kids, Melanie & Kevin, and we have two wonderful grandkids with a third one due any day now.

After the kids moved out, we started our own film company, producing, directing, and
sometimes starring in X-rated movies. The money was real good, but it was real hard to hide it from the family, and all that sex all the time really does get boring. (ask around, you'll find somebody that's got some of our movies hidden in the closet). These days I commute to Raleigh selling cabinets to building contractors. Pat works in customer service at Belk.

I've been a fan of "Little Feat" since '72 or '73 and finally got to meet the band about 5 years ago. I've been traveling and working with their road crew for the last couple of years anytime they play in the southeast. Yea, I'm still trying to live out my adolescent fantasies. Maybe one day I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Look forward to seeing everybody at the best reunion possible. Pass the word to everybody you can. If you don't make an effort to come we really will talk about you, whether it's the truth or not!!!

Sarah Kay Carter

I am married to Mitchell Faircloth who graduated from Cape Fear in 1970. We have been married 30 years.

I have been with Child Nutrition for over 20 years. I am currently a Manager Trainer for Nash-Rocky Mt. Child Nutrition.

We have a beautiful grandson and two more grandchildren on the way. Our first granddaughter and another grandson will be arriving in September and October.

I wish everyone the best and God bless! See you in November.

Gary Wayne Brown

Hello everyone, it's hard to believe it's been 30 years since graduation. A day I thought would never arrive has come and gone along with so many of our classmates.

I can still hear Ms Brenda Smith singing "I ride my bicycle." and how about those girls from central that talked 90 miles an hour, you know who you are!

I've been married for 29 years to my soul mate, Mary Jo Norris. We have two children, Jason 24, and Lesley 22. We also have a granddaughter, Mary Kathryn 4, and another grandchild due February 20th!

I've been at Power-Swain Chevrolet for 25 years, eleven of those as general sales manager. Life has been great, probably better than I deserve.

I hope everyone will try to be at the reunion!

Gary Brown

Karen Elaine Melvin

I married, Mark Ingram, in 1991 and we have one 9-year old son, Tyler. I have been an interior designer since graduating from UNC-G in 1977. I worked at 4 different companies, one of which was my own. Now I do commercial interiors part-time while spending as much time as possible with my son and teaching 3rd grade choir and adult Sunday School with Mark at Snyder Baptist Church where we met.

We all love to sing in several small groups and choirs where I often sit next to Barbara Lawson, our choral director from CFHS! Mark is safety, environmental and facilities engineer at Black & Decker and Tyler is a 4th grader at Ashley Elementary where he aspires to be a veterinarian. However, he wants to do that
at UNC, much to his Dad's chagrin (being a State graduate)!

I am really looking forward to the reunion and thanks for all the hard work! God bless.

Gary Juan Beard

Still married to Beth, we have one son Jeremy, 22  and his girlfriend of almost 8 years, Ashley.  I have been employed at  Kelly Springfield for almost 30 years now.

Sharon Ann Strickland

Hello Everyone! I cannot believe that it has been 22 years since I left Fayetteville. I have been married to my husband, Butch, for 22 years.

We have two sons, Sky, 18, is a freshman at Gardner-Webb University where he is majoring in History and Political Science. He plans to go to Law School one day. Len, 15, is a sophomore at Alexander Central High School. He plays soccer and tennis. His career aspiration is to design and build roller coasters. Sky's involvement in the North Carolina Association of Student Councils for the past 6 years and Len always playing ball somewhere has really kept us busy.

I am a faculty member of the Mathematics Division at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. Teaching math is my passion. I also play the organ, piano, and keyboard for our church. Butch is the Director of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. We have moved quite a bit but finally settled in Bethlehem (just north of Hickory) about 13 years ago. My parents still live in Eastover. We look forward to seeing everyone in November.

Bonnie Ellon Russ

Gosh, it is so great to hear from so many of you. I guess I have been procrastinating about writing because the past couple of years have been very difficult for me . I lost my Mother to Alzheimers Disease in in January of 2002. I lost Hank ( my husband and best friend ) to cancer in October 2002. He had a very difficult road to travel for two years.

God blessed Hank and I with two wonderful children. Our son, Chase, graduated  from Cape Fear in June 2003 and is now attending FTCC. Our daughter Mckenzie is in the 10th grade at Cape Fear . She is on the Girls Varsity soccer team as head goalie. She has been playing soccer for 9 years.

I have not worked outside of home for 15 years . I am , however, the music director at Judson Baptist Church , where I have attended my entire life. Music gives me a lot of gratification.

Well, I can't wait to see all of you in November. Until then , God Bless.

Bonnie Russ ( Clark )

Mary Frances Warren

Mike retired from the Air Force in 1994 and is now the Radio Engineer for the NC Dept of Corrections. He handles all communication equipment and vehicles for the entire state.

Mary is a registered nurse on the 8th floor of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and has just returned to night shift as charge nurse.

We have been married for 30 years and have 3 children. Michael Jr. just completed his house with much labor and planning from family and friends. He operates and maintains the helicopter simulators at Simmons Air Field. James is working towards his doctorate in chemistry at NC State. He is working his way through as a teacher/assistant, research/assistant in the chemistry classes and labs. Rebecca is in her second year at East Carolina University and at present plans to major in Biochemistry.

We live within walking distance of Cape Fear High in a house that we saw being built while we were dating. I made the comment at the time that one day we would have a house like that and Mike laughed. It happened to be for sale when we returned and we now call it home.

We have lived in many different places throughout the years including Japan, Oklahoma, Georgia, Mississippi, The Philippines, and Louisiana. Mike also spent time in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Brenda Delois Crumpler

Aleta Faye Wiggs

Well, we finally did it.........we've moved back home to Carolina! It took 20 long years, but we are SO glad to be back. We still have our business in Pennsylvania, but have someone running it for us now. You can check it out at www.josephmachineco.com  to see what we've been doing all this time up north! The kids are out of college and on their own now. Amy lives in Hoboken, NJ, and works in Manhattan at a large ad agency. She LOVES the big city life. Anthony graduated from Colorado University and works as an engineer in Boulder. He LOVES the wide open spaces. Neither wanted to come back to PA to live, so we decided to move back closer to my family. It's sort of a semi-retirement for the two of us.......we're still involved in running the business, just not on a daily basis. My sister's battle with cancer these past several years made us realize how much we missed being closer to home. Our 27th wedding anniversary is on November 27, 2003, Thanksgiving Day, this year ! We look forward to celebrating it back home where it all started! We were supposed to be in Florida for Thanksgiving, but hope to be able to make the reunion. Sounds like the committee has been hard at work to make this a great one! We look forward to seeing everyone.

Oscar Anthony Graham

What a surprise. Glad to hear from you all. I will make plans to attend in November/Thanksgiving and try to advise everyone that was a member of our class.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Cathy, for 30 years this October. We have one "son"- a black Labrador retriever, Cody, who we dearly love. After graduation, I served some time in the U.S. Navy and then returned back to Fayetteville. I worked some in Civil Service at Ft. Bragg and then decided to become self-employed in 1986 and opened Sandy Ridge Electric, Inc. beginning with only myself & one employee. Cathy started working with me in 1993, after working with the State of N.C. for 17-1/2 years.

We presently have 30 employees at Sandy Ridge, which keeps us really busy, but have been blessed with a booming business. Look forward to seeing everyone again in November. We haven't missed a reunion yet!

Thirty years, boy time sure flies by. Well when I graduated from Cape Fear I joined the United States Air Force as a Law Enforcement specialist (military policeman) and went to sunny Tyndall Air Force Base and worked as a Security Police Investigator. I did my four year hitch and got out. Sheriff Otis Jones hired me as a Patrol Deputy for the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department. I worked there for seven months and decided that the pay was not that great, so I resigned. I reentered the Air Force where I then spent 25 years retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E8) in September of 2000.

I'm married to Ayn Longbella who is  in the Air Force at the present time. We have one son, Matthew and currently are stationed in Spain. Ayn will retired in March 2004, we have purchased a home in Glyndon Minnesota where we plan to live when she gets out.

I was able to get my bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland while living here and I was recently hired as a background investigator for a DOD contractor. Can't make it to this reunion but hopefully if the good lord will I can make it to the next one.

Take care.

I am so excited about the reunion. I have not attended one yet, but am planning to this year. I have only heard good things about the previous reunions. Always thought I would go but never made it.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, James Cooper, for 27 years. God did not choose to bless us with children, but He has given us a lot of children to love through the years.

After high school I went to work at Rohm and Haas and stayed there when they sold to Monsanto. In 1986 I left Monsanto to be a housewife (I thought). Just a few months later God opened the doors for me at Freedom Baptist Church. I have been the secretary of our church for 17 years. My husband and I both have been very active in the ministries of Freedom Baptist Church.

James retired from the Cedar Creek Site of Dupont in 2000, after 28 years of service. Since then he has had a lot of health problems. He was diagnosed with degenerative joint disease. He has had a total hip replacement, both knees operated on and shoulder surgery in the past three years. He will be having a total knee replacement in January 2004. But God is still in control.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone in just a few days now.

I am now retired from FTCC. My wife and I will be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary on November 23. We have one son, Michael who graduated from Cape Fear in 2003.

Kay Fisher Crow

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest! I am enjoying reading about the journey of  my classmates for the past 30 years.

Preston and I have been married and living in Aberdeen, Washington for the past 21 years. Aberdeen is located 2 hours southwest of Seattle and 20 minutes from the ocean. WA is a beautiful state and I am so glad I have the pleasure of living here. It does rain a lot but the summers are great with no humidity and Mt. Rainer is awesome, but I always hold NC close in my heart.

Both my parents have passed away so I haven't been to NC in three years but we are planning a trip next year.

Preston has worked in law enforcement for the past 18 years. I have worked a variety of jobs including director of purchasing for the local hospital and interpreter for the hearing impaired and deaf for the school system. I have spent the past year staying home and doing projects around the house. It has been fun.

We don't have any grandchildren because we don't have any kids. I do have an awesome cat named Sammie which I totally adore. We love being involved in our local church.

I am sorry I can't attend the Reunion, sounds like a lot of fun. I will be thinking of you all.

God Bless.

In addition to his HS team in 2003 he led his 14U team to qualify for the ECTB National World Series, played in the USSSA National World Series for another team. Played 17U summer baseball, and played 18U fall baseball (I coached the team).

Presently he is weight-training and running and participating in baseball camps as he looks forward to a strong spring High School season. Kirk is a switch hitter who plays shortstop and pitches. He plans to continue baseball after High School, and we are starting to look at colleges.
